We hope that every responsible pet parent has licensed and chipped their dogs and cats; but we know that isn’t always possible for a variety of reasons. And doors get left open, or gates – or bad people let the pets out of their yards. For whatever reason – if you find or lose a pet – these resources will help you reunite.
This post was originally on Next Door (Nextdoor.com – a neighborhood community app), and I thought it was so thorough and so helpful I am sharing it here:
When you find a pet

Hope this helps everyone searching. Feel free to copy and share or simply share. 😊
Here are 25… yes 25 Facebook sites you can scan for your dog or cat.
Also there is pawboost.com
Petsmart, and shelters will scan for chips if you find a pet. So bring them there if you find one. Take a pic and post in your neighborhood app called Nextdoor.com 1st.
Then ALL of these Facebook sites. Not everyone knows they are all there. So some only search through 1 or 2. So cover them all.
The shelters should be last resorts to drop off but first to search if your fur baby is missing. Especially Mt Vernon. Other than the SPCA on Gibson and ALPHA-CANINE, ( you’ll need to call to see if they have room first) I don’t believe we have any no kill shelters other than that. Sad.
If you leave an animal you found at a shelter please give them your number as
Before you decide to adopt a stray you find, the law says you must wait 15 days before you can claim as your own. I would recommend first check to see if it’s chipped by taking to a local vet, or Pet-smart etc. It’s free and simple. Then post flyers and posts on line.
Here are the 25 Facebook sites. And at very bottom I include shelter info.
Bakersfield Cats and Kittens lost and found and supplies are also on Facebook.
And don’t forget shelters also are a good source to go look for your fur baby. As well as adopt. I would suggest going in person since they are all not uploaded and your baby could actually really be there just not downloaded yet.
Here they are however to check after hours.
Don’t forget Wasco Shelter
